Braunfest Melodrama on tap for young and…not so young!

Circle Arts Theatre has been writing and performing an annual melodrama in conjunction with Wurstfest for more than 40 years. Each one is a parody of a well-known story, movie or TV show that provides a German twist to promote our heritage.

In keeping with that tradition, Circle Arts Theatre has taken Janice Jordan Shefelman’s historically-based book, A Paradise Called Texas, and created a fun-filled mini-melodrama that will be performed by Circle Arts Theatre’s Youth Repertory Company, The Inner Circle, at Braunfest on Feb. 28.

The Inner Circle is made up of middle-school and high-school aged actors who perform at area schools and at youth theatre festivals. These talented young people share a love of live theatre and help ignite that passion in elementary school students in five surrounding counties. Not only are they promoting theatre arts, but each performance has a curriculum-based message that addresses a key topic. Some favorites include a play about the history behind the Cinco de Mayo holiday and an anti-bullying play.

As with all melodramas, the Braunfest show will include audience participation, singing, dancing and a barrel of fun. This one is even more special because The Inner Circle helped write the play as well.  It will be a showcase of the creativity of our youth and a celebration of our heritage. Don’t miss it.
